Due to subordinate role, Guo Xijin, known as an "underground" bishop have been detained in China. Guo Xijin is not affiliated with state-controlled Catholic Patriotic Association.
Chinese authorities arrested the bishop for declining to officiate an Easter Mass with Zhan Silu, one of the appointed bishops by the Chinese government, which was not recognized by the Vatican. The Vatican-recognized bishop Guo was being asked to become an auxiliary to the government-appointed Zhan.
Catholics in China are divided between "underground" communities that recognizes the pope and Catholic Patriotic Association where bishops are appointed by the Chinese government.
