Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III assured routed temporary jobs for displaced Boracay employees until the shutdown is lifted. The term would be emergency employment. He added that the clean-up project preferred to hire them in minimum wage.
Bello admitted that the temporary closure of the island affects the revenue of P56 billion and 36,000 employees displaced.
DENR explained that the temporary closure is to diminish the long range of damage that would generate long term unemployment and environmental violations.
By joint, DOLE and DENR and local authorities affirmed remedial resolution to ensure that displaced employees will either have emergency jobs or livelihood assistance while the clean-up operation is work in progress.
