Nagbitiw na sa pwesto si Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chair Andres Bautista ayon sa kanyang post sa kanyang twitter account ngayong araw.
Sa isang liham na naka-post sa kanyang social media account, sinabi ni Bautista: It is with deep sadness that I am informing you about my decision to resign as the Chair of the Commission on Elections by the end of the year."
"After much prayer and discernment, I believe that this is the right time to step down given the postponement of the Barangay and SK elections. This was not easy decision. But my family, especially my children, need me now more than ever."
"I believe I have served our Commission well and the Filipino people to the best of my ability, but only with your faithful help and constant support," dagdag pa niya.
Si Bautista, na chairman ng Presidential Commission on Good Government, ay hinirang na manguna sa Comelec noong 2015. Ang kanyang appointment ay pitong taon, alinsunod sa Artikulo IX ng 1987 Konstitusyon.
Ang pagbitiw ni Bautista ay mas mababa sa isang buwan matapos ibasura ng House of Representatives ang reklamong impeachment laban sa kanya sa kanyang diumano'y di-maipaliwanag na yaman.
