The long wait is finally over. In the advent of salary increment for uniform arm personnel, military and police, President Duterte advised Department of Finance (DOF) Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to look for means to increase the salary for public school teachers.
During the 21st Cabinet Meeting in Malacañang, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated that the President wanted to double the salary as part of Tax Reform Package. The increase is not yet determine by how much but the apparent intention is that there should be a result for the implementation of second tax reform package.
The Department of Education (Deped) Teachers will be receiving two tranches starting Jan. 2018 and 2019 respectively: Teacher I P20,179 to P20,754, Teacher II P22,149 to P22,938, Teacher III P24,224 to P25,232. The Department of Education (Deped) still needs additional teachers 36,017 as of December 2017. The annual “chalk allowance,” to purchase classroom supplies, was raised to P3,500 from P2,500, and the clothing allowance , P6,000 from P5,000.
Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) chair Benjo Basas said “For the longest time, our calls for a just compensation and treatment commensurate to our role in society have been neglected by previous administrations. We hope that this time, things would really change.”
