After conducted 18 hearings since Gadon filed the complaint in August 2017, Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno's impeachment trial completed when the House of Representative Justice Committee voted 38-2 in favor to raised the complaint to the House of Senate.
The committee found the probable cause on the cases of culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, corruption, and other high crimes” for her alleged lapses, including the alleged untruthful declaration of her wealth in the Statement of Assets. Noted are luxury car procurement, excessive spending, Psychiatric Test and hidden wealth.
The two lawmakers who voted against the finding of a probable cause were Reps. Jose Christopher Belmonte of Quezon City and Arlene Bag-ao of Dinagat Island.
