Turkey, Istanbul Court sent 25 journalists into prison over links to the group blamed by Turkish authorities for the 2016 failed coup. This is a mass trial of media personalities detained after the putsch advanced.
Twenty-three of the journalists were convicted of membership of an armed terror group while two more on lesser charges. The convicted journalists were accused working and linked to a group of US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen, who allegedly manufactured coup de etat. Gulen had links to other media institutions allegedly had participation on the failed coup.
Gulen denied the accusations. A total of 19 of the suspects were already being held in jail ahead of the verdict.
