The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is now pushing for localized peace talks with the NPA in the country's various areas, despite the absence of the peace talks formal resumption. Rumors over social media that Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founding chairman Jose Ma. Sison is sick and dying.
National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. in an interview said the government is still exerting all the efforts in achieving a peaceful settlement of the communist insurgency problem, with or without Sison in it.
“Look at his face, isn’t he sick? That is expected, but let me not go into the details… but he is really ill,” Esperon said in a forum held in Quezon City.
“As of now, the peace talks are terminated but we are not closing the door for future negotiations, the reason why we are reviewing all these previous agreements forged in past peace negotiations,” he added.
However, Esperon reiterated that the government is still welcoming the possibilities of resumption regarding peace negotiations with the leaders of the communists' group.
