Hiniling ni Marawi Bishop Edwin dela Peña kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte noong Martes, ika-19 ng Setyembre na pahintulutan na ang ilang pamilyang taga-Marawi City na pabalikin na sa kanilang lungsod dahil hinihimok rin niya ang mga Kristiyano na tulungan ang komunidad ng Muslim doon.
"We humbly ask President Rodrigo Duterte to allow some of the displaced families to return home, particularly those who live in secured and government-controlled areas away from ground zero," -pahayag ni Dela Peña sa isang press conference.
"We trust the government to remain true to their commitment to listen to the voices of the Maranaos and to allow them to take the lead in the rebuilding process," dagdag ng bishop.
Umaasa rin ang aniya si dela peña na sana matapos na ang digmaan sa Marawi sa lalong madaling panahon upang makabalik na ang mga Maranaos sa kanilang mga bahay at makapag simula na muli.
"We are hopeful that soon the war will be over, and that the Maranaos can begin to go back home and rebuild their lives and rehabilitate their city."
Ang Marawi City ay naging lugar ng sagupaan sa pagitan ng mga tropa ng pamahalaan at mga teroristang Maute Group mula pa noong Mayo 23.
