Pormal nang tinapos ng House Committee on Justice ngayong Martes ang reklamong impeachment laban kay Commission on Elections Chairman Andres D. Bautista.
Ito ay pagkatapos makatanggap ang panel ng sulat mula sa Malacañang na tinanggap na ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang pagbibitiw ni Bautista sa Comelec at epektibo ito sa "lalong madaling panahon." Ang sulat na may petsang Oktubre 23 ay nilagdaan ni Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea.
“Upon the instruction of President Rodrigo Duterte, I wish to inform you that your resignation is hereby accepted, effective immediately,” bahagi ng liham na nilagdaan ni Medialdea.
“It has ended well for the House of Representatives and also for the Senate,” ani Umali.
“There was an offer, there was an acceptance, so there is now a meeting of the minds. This meeting of the minds rendered this matter finished,” dagdag pa niya.
