MALAYSIA WILL SEND "FAKE NEWS MAKERS" IN JAIL FOR 10 YEARS WITH $130,000 FINE





The Malaysian government proposed a law to fight irresponsible journalism or makers of “fake news” to jail to a maximum of 10 years . Once guilty apart from imprisonment, there will be a fine of up to 500,000 ringgit ($130,000).



The proposed law sent fears and criticism since the Malaysian government ranked 144th out of 180 countries in Reporters Without Borders’ World Press Freedom Index.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has been targeting critics in politics and to the media been attacking him with allege corruption. They said that the fake news is a worldwide phenomenon using outlets like social media to carry out news uncensored.
