There were 58 of those expelled served at the US embassy in Moscow and two at the US consulate in Ekaterinburg. Russia shut down the US consulate in St Petersburg and rather issued a protest note to the US ambassador to Moscow.
The US State Department said the mass expulsion order and closure of St Petersburg consulate shows Russia is not interested in dialogue on issues that matter.
