Sa pagpunta ni Senator Antonio Trillanes IV sa US, sinabi nitong sinabi lamang niya ang tunay na sitwasyon ng Pilipinas sa kanyang pakikipag-usap kay US Republican Senator Marco Rubio.
Sa isang pahayag, tumanggi rin ang Senador sa mga ulat na sinubukan niya umanong kumbinsihin ang mga mambabatas ng US upang hikayatin si US President Donald Trump na kanselahin ang pagbisita sa Maynila sa Nobyembre para sa Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit (ASEAN).
“I would like to confirm the information that I met with senior US government officials to include Senator Marco Rubio. As mentioned in the tweet of Senator Rubio, we talked about enhancing RP-US relations, corruption, and the human rights situation in the country,” ani Trillanes.
“To be clear, I did not try to stop the state visit of President Trump since these things are carefully planned and cannot be stopped on the mere say-so of a Philippine senator,” dagdag pa niya.
Una nang sinabi ng Malacañang na umaasa silang hindi nagbigay si Trillanes ng 'biased' na impormasyon sa mga US officials na masamang makakaapekto sa relasyon ng dalawang bansa.
Tumanggi naman si Trillanes at sinabing nagpahayag lamang siya ng makatotohanang impormasyon. Giit pa niya, walang sinuman ang makaloloko sa gobyerno ng US tungkol sa tunay na status ng Pilipinas.
“Unlike the officials of the Duterte Administration, I presented only factual information. Besides, you cannot fool the US government; they know what's happening in our country,” pahayag ni Trillanes.
